Ok, so hopefully the title got you interested, if only because you were laughing at the thought that any gay films could actually be comedy-based and be worth watching. Trust me, after this week I can confirm that they can, although I can also confirm that some really can’t!
The London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival has recently been in full swing at the BFI Southbank centre and as I do every year I set about trying to pick which of the 30 odd films I wanted to see. Then of course I had to re-pick because a lot of the truly great films had already sold out whilst I was queuing on the phone listening to some lift-style music broken up by advertising messages of forthcoming events and films at the BFI.
I love this festival because it really is like roulette, it could go your way and you have tickets to a corker of a film, or you could lose it all and be sat wishing you could leave but have to sit there and try not to fall asleep!
This year I’ve been extremely lucky to see two films which have particularly stuck in my mind; the first is “I Can’t Think Straight”, which is set to be released so keep an eye out for it. The other is a short which was played as part of a collection of shorts within Comic Relief called “Screening Party”.
