What is it about time, if you’re not careful you blink and suddenly hours have passed. Life is moving quickly and important dates fly around each year more quickly. I’m sure an hour is shorter than it used to be, yet we seem to move, speak, and carry out other tasks at the same rate, so how is this so?
I have decided it must be one of life’s little mysteries which we will either never know the answer to, or that some scientist will find the answer too, but too late to resolve it.
I always find it rather strange that we apparently have all of these devices, inventions and belongings that are intended to help us save time. We can record television programmes and watch them at a more convenient time, you can receive a text wherever you are, you can travel by car and train, the list goes on. Yet, how come we have even less time than we would have had about 50 years ago.
Unfortunately these devices are great in practice but not so great in reality. Recording television shows means the things you probably would have missed as you weren’t around you are now watching, you’re communicating more frequently with people and spending a lot of time with your head in your phone, there is so muckh traffic on the roads that you get stuck in traffic, and you’re only thinking of travelling that far because you can when really you could have relaxed around the corner and you’d have been there hours ago.
So why do we continue to fill our days with endless tasks? There is nothing so boring as having nothing to do and nothing so exciting as completing a task which you’d be told you couldn’t do. We want a challenge and if our work or home life don’t challenge us, then we subconsciously set ourselves challenges to keep the interest.
